Note: While her earlier writings reflect a somewhat different viewpoint, her doctoral research provided Ruth with a deeper understanding of family relationships within the context of family court. Notably, her development of the Family Prism Approach provides a more nuanced, expansive framework for understanding parent-child relationships. Ruth envisioned each of the actors in the family dynamic - the parents, the child, relatives, and the family court itself - as facets of a prism, each offering a unique perspective. She saw this as a fitting metaphor and dubbed her model The Family Prism Approach.
